Build your own oil skimmer
Only technically gifted people who also have a lot to offer in terms of craftsmanship are likely to come up with this idea. There can be various reasons for wanting to build an oil skimmer yourself:
What speaks for it
Cost reasons:
You can often build an oil skimmer yourself from existing components. This can save money compared to buying one, if everything goes smoothly.
A desire to tinker:
Particularly talented people are sure to come up with something that works at first and second glance. Especially in the private sector, where there are little or no regulations on how an oil skimmer should be designed.
Why not build an oil skimmer yourself?
Oil skimmers fulfill important tasks in the commercial sector. The devices must be tested for workplace safety and suitability in accordance with CE directives. However, there are also other directives for commercial use that do not directly affect the oil skimmer itself, but do affect the processes on which an oil skimmer acts or the disposal of the oil that is removed by the skimmer. Oil skimmers in the commercial sector are designed for effective continuous operation and are designed to meet the requirements. It is therefore questionable whether self-construction saves costs here, or whether the desire to tinker should be the main focus.
We do not recommend building your own oil skimmer for commercial use and are therefore unable to provide building instructions.
